WHO ARE THE ROMA PEOPLE?
Romania has the largest population of Gypsies
( Roma people ) in all of Europe. Currently there
are more than two million Gypsies living in
Romania.

Visitors to Romania see Gypsies everywhere:
-- begging in public place,
-- washing windshields,
-- being involved in witchcraft as fortune tellers,
mediums ( consulting the dead ),
-- selling things they make, like wooden spoons,
pots, brooms, shoes, etc
-- most of the street kids/orphans are Gypsies.

The majority of Gypsies live in houses they build themselves out of mud and wood, covered with tar paper. They live on the outskirts of cities, following their own rules, habits, and culture. The officials of cities who should serve on behalf of all people neglect the Gypsy communities. They only visit them when they want their votes.

We strongly believe that a person's character is more important than what part of society he/she belongs to. That is why we are determined to " step out of the boat " and do something to help them change. God loves the Gypsies also, and Jesus died for them too. We as Christians who love God need to love them with the love of Jesus.
Most Gypsies are unemployed and live on the small social support from the government. Many end up in jail for stealing. Others are involved in gangs with criminal activities. Most Romanians consider Gypsies as "THE GARBAGE OF SOCIETY". Nobody wants to bother with them.
